Laptop Distribution Program

Space Coast STEM provides free laptops to students in Brevard County who lack access to technology at home. We believe every student deserves the tools they need to succeed in their education, regardless of their family's financial situation.

How We Source Our Laptops

We acquire laptops through two primary channels:

• Community Donations: Generous individuals and businesses donate their used laptops to our program
• E-Waste Recycling Programs: We purchase laptops wholesale from electronic waste recycling facilities, giving devices a second life instead of ending up in landfills

Our Refurbishment Process

Every laptop we distribute goes through a thorough refurbishment process:

• Complete Data Wiping: All existing data is securely erased to protect previous owners' privacy
• Hardware Inspection: We test and verify that all components are working properly
• Linux Installation: We install Zorin OS, a user-friendly Linux distribution that runs efficiently on older hardware (learn more about why we use Linux)
• Essential Software: Each laptop comes pre-loaded with educational software, web browsers, office applications, and tools students need for schoolwork

What Students Receive

Each student receives:

• A fully functional, refurbished laptop with Zorin OS installed
• Power adapter and necessary accessories
• Basic training on using the laptop and Zorin OS
• Access to our tech support for questions and troubleshooting
• Pre-installed educational software and productivity tools

How to Request a Laptop

If you're a student in Brevard County who needs a laptop for school, here's how to apply:

• Students: Talk to your school counselor or teacher about the Space Coast STEM laptop program, or contact us directly through our website
• Parents/Guardians: Reach out to us via our contact form to request a laptop for your student. We'll guide you through the simple application process
• Schools & Teachers: If you have students in need, we can work with your school to identify and help students who would benefit from our program

Eligibility

Our program prioritizes students who:

• Attend school in Brevard County, Florida
• Do not have access to a working computer at home
• Demonstrate a commitment to their education
• Have a need for technology to complete schoolwork
